NPA Earthmoving Yusia is proud to be a locally owned Indigenous company creating real employment, training and career pathways for people of the Northern Peninsula Area.
Our workforce is made up of local Indigenous community members, and since establishment we have employed and trained 149 local people across a range of civil construction, earthmoving, plant operation, trade, supervision and administration roles.
We believe that delivering quality projects should also create lasting benefits for the community. That means investing in local people, building skills on the job, supporting trainees and creating opportunities for long-term employment.
Local people, local capability
NPA Earthmoving Yusia is committed to supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employment in the NPA. Our team includes experienced operators, labourers, supervisors, trainees, administration staff and qualified tradespeople who understand the local area, community expectations and the realities of working in remote environments.
Our staff have worked across roles including:
- machine operators;
- truck drivers;
- diesel fitters;
- general labourers;
- site supervisors;
- administration officers;
- trainees; and
- plumbing support.
This local workforce gives us the ability to deliver works with strong community knowledge, cultural awareness and practical understanding of Cape York and Northern Peninsula Area conditions.
Training and career pathways
We are committed to helping staff build recognised skills and industry qualifications. Our project managers and supervisors provide practical, face-to-face training and mentoring on site, helping workers develop confidence, capability and safe work practices.
Through partnerships with training providers, our staff have been supported to complete training in areas such as:
- Certificate III in Civil Construction;
- road construction and maintenance;
- pipe laying;
- heavy machinery tickets;
- white card construction safety;
- traffic control management;
- Indigenous cultural heritage induction;
- chainsaw operation;
- elevating work platform;
- HR licences;
- first aid; and
- other industry-relevant tickets and qualifications.
These pathways help local workers move from entry-level roles into skilled positions, plant operation, supervision and long-term employment.

Supporting trainees
NPA Earthmoving Yusia currently has a strong team of regular plant operators and labourers, supported by trainees who are building their skills through real work experience.
Trainees are supported through:
- on-the-job learning;
- supervision from experienced staff;
- exposure to different types of civil works;
- machinery and equipment experience;
- safety training;
- mentoring; and
- opportunities to progress into ongoing roles.
We aim to create a practical pathway where local people can start, learn, grow and build a future in the civil construction industry.
Safety, wellbeing and workforce support
We understand that a strong workforce is built on more than technical skills. NPA Earthmoving Yusia encourages safe work attitudes, personal wellbeing and positive workplace behaviour.
We support staff to understand the link between safety at work, health at home and productivity on site. This includes encouraging regular health checks, safe work practices, teamwork, communication and responsibility.
Our goal is to develop workers who are skilled, reliable, safety-conscious and proud of the work they deliver for their community.

Succession and leadership
NPA Earthmoving Yusia is committed to building the next generation of local leaders in civil construction. Through training, mentoring and practical experience, we support staff to develop the skills needed to take on more responsibility over time.
This includes pathways into:
- senior plant operation;
- crew leadership;
- site supervision;
- project support;
- administration; and
- trade and technical roles.
By investing in local leadership, we help strengthen both our company and the broader NPA workforce.
